Cold Weather and winter chores

01/06/2018

We have had a couple of rather cold weeks with some snow.  Do be sure to get out to any of your bonsai shelters and ensure that you have plenty of rodenticide in place.  It is best to check every two weeks.  The cold weather will drive the mice and such into the shelters and you really should be sure to keep them well "fed".

If the weather warms enough, you may need to water - unless you shoveled snow over the pots earlier.  Don't water unless there is a reasonable thaw period.  If you water with a hose while the pots are frozen they will thaw and refreeze and that is a recipe for root damage.  It is better to leave them frozen if possible.
