Review: The Essential Bonsai Book

The latest book by Jonas Dupuich hit the market this spring. It’s a beautiful book that meets this moment of knowledge, in clear language accessible to anyone.

Author Jonas Dupuich of the Bonsai Tonight blog and store.

The intention and audience here is distinct from Jonas’ first book, The Little Book Of Bonsai, which is a great introductory book—the one you want to buy for someone who has just inherited a bonsai or has a few first trees and is at a loss. It’s a panic-reducing volume and one of my highest recommended books. This new book is for dedicated practitioners.

Individual artists are featured in this new book, who offer key insights into bonsai practice.

Bjorn Bjorholm’s blurb for the book:

The Essential Bonsai Book is unlike any other bonsai book on the market today—it provides readers with a goal-based approach to creating, maintaining, and developing bonsai in any growing environment. Expertly researched and written, this is an excellent book for bonsai enthusiasts of any experience level.

I agree! This latest book by Jonas is the most succinct overview of bonsai techniques I’ve seen. The photos are beautiful and well curated for the educational point, and the text has Jonas’ signature clarity.

The new book is available on the Bonsai Tonight website.
