Museum curator Michael James says shielding bonsai roots from extremely cold temperatures and frozen soil is one of the most important protective measures to take during winter.
Museum volunteer Mike Rainwater built custom bamboo boxes to hold hardwood mulch around some bonsai pots at the museum to help protect those trees’ roots.
