Happy Spring?!! This is Michigan. Don't turn your back or it is snow again! Oh well shouldn't be here too long. Only two weeks till the Michigan All-State Bonsai Show at Meijer Gardens!! Woo Hoo!! I hope each of you will participate. There is, of course the display/show beautiful trees from beginning level to world class. Also some really quality vendors and classes as well as public demonstrations. Something for everyone. Speaking of classes, I believe there are still a few spots open in some classes The Meijer website shows 4 classes open One is a Saturday class featuring a Boulevard Cypress and three classes on Sunday. One is a Fukien Tea(tropical), another is a Boxwood Forest Planting and the last is a Bring Your own Tree with Guest Artist Todd Schlafer. I urge you to take advantage of this great line up and Take a Class! On Tuesday May 21 our Club will host Jack Sustic who will conduct a bring your own tree workshop. This is open to all club members. Jack will work with us one-on-one with all of us able to observe and contribute. Jack is the curator emeritus of the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum in Washington DC. He now travels and teaches bonsai at club meetings and shows. We are lucky to have him. Mark your calendars. Maybe buy a new tree at the All-State show and bring it to the club meeting for work and advice. Hope to see you there, May 21 7pm (bonsai 101 at 6:45), Meijer Gardens.
