Happy Spring, finally!! I hope your bonsai trees all survived the cold spring and are budding, blooming, leafing out and otherwise looking spectacular. I am planning to see you all at the Michigan Allstate Show this weekend at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. Maybe I will see a tree you have entered. It is a great opportunity to show off your little trees to a large, appreciative audience. There are a few classes available yet you may want to take. Especially interesting to me is the bring your own tree workshops both days with the guest master William Valavanis. Bill has a long history in bonsai starting with a Japanese apprenticeship 40 years ago. He will conduct a class both Saturday and Sunday afternoons If you are a Meijer Gardens member the cost is only $50 You can register here http://www.meijergardens.org/calendar/category/classes-camps/ Next meeting is Tuesday May 15 7:00 pm at Kent Career Technical Center 1655 East Beltline NE Grand Rapids, Our guest will be John Cervoski a Kalamazoo bonsai artist who will demonstrate deadwood carving and care for bonsai. Should be a very interesting, informative time. Of course you are encouraged to bring a tree or other treasure (maybe something you picked up from our vendors at the All State Show!) to share or to ask advice. There are plenty of folks who will offer help. Hope to see you at the show and then at the monthly meeting! Tim Cox, president West Michigan Bonsai Club
