From nursery stock to Bonsai — Myrtle transformation (2.5 years) From nursery stock to Bonsai — Myrtle transformation (2.5 years)
In this video we follow the full 2.5-year journey of a common myrtle (Myrtus communis) — bought as cheap nursery stock for around $15 — and transform it step by step into a proper bonsai. Over the course of two and a half years, the tree was repotted twice, pruned multiple times to build ramification and structure, and wired twice to set the final movement and branch placement. A great example of what patience and consistent work can do with even the most humble starting material. The journey ends with the tree being placed into a striking blue pot that really sets the finished design apart. If you've ever wondered whether it's worth working with inexpensive nursery stock — this one should answer that question.
